Microsoft Office Suite;MS SharePoint;Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet Software
Hello All,
In the previous share point version (earlier than 2013) - if you upload a excel file to share point site -
opening the SharePoint in internet explorer - and then viewing that same excel file ->> user will get a drop down saying "Open with excel"
BUT, when I am in new SharePoint 2013 site - i don't see that option as one of the options.....for opening the excel file
please help
is this something admins can enable or something IT needs to do at their end to make this feasible?
Thanks a million

500 points EXCELLENT
You can try
1)
http://www.experts-exchange.com/OS/Microsoft_Operating_Systems/Server/MS-SharePoint/Q_28469478.html#a40179651
the link in my first post that will assist you to switch to 32-bit iE
OR
2) reset IE default setting
If both item is not okay , try to do next item (3) that may need 32-bit IE(i guess)
enabled the following add-ons
- SharePoint Export Database Launcher
- SharePoint OpenDocuments Class
- SharePoint Spreadsheet Launcher
- SharePoint Stssync Handler

looks like we may getting somewhere and thanks for indicating....where do i need to implement that - can this be done within sharepoint UI or the IT has to do it on their end?

-1 Could you try to reset default IE setting ?
-2 Have you enabled the following add-ons?
- SharePoint Export Database Launcher
- SharePoint OpenDocuments Class
- SharePoint Spreadsheet Launcher
- SharePoint Stssync Handler
it seems you need to switch to 32-bit IE to solve this issue

Hello Duncan,
its weird, I do have admin access but I don't see it. In the old SharePoint site (not 2013), I can do this but in the new 2013 SharePoint - this option "edit with Microsoft office excel" is missing or unavailable. Please the attached image.

it seems user permission issue.

I think that's not my issue. I indicated "open with Microsoft Excel" as a option that you would get from share point site - when you are clicking on the excel file within a sharepoint site....make sense?

also, if i make any changes to any excel file and upload it to the new share point - it asks like 50 question before the file can be uploaded - how to disable this stupid thing or limit the questions asked - once again - who can disable it? admin user or IT?
