Dear Mysql and Experts,
I 've not used mysql for a long long time. And my Cpanel was expired from last two months, in other words, I can not use my CPanel to do any mysql work or admin.
And when I try to access mysql on my chrome browser at http://mysite.com:3306 that I can
not access the mysql admin page, just have this error
pcd273039.netvigator.com is probably my ISP IP to my window desktop
mysite.com is Linux CentOS apache server that is VPS server
Now I go to root shell to check /etc/my.cnf, there is nothing there
that included into the following code area with netstat -tapn output for your review
And it shows port 3306 is listening ..
So I try googl it, http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/ubuntu/access-your-mysql-server-remotely-over-ssh/
for using SSH tunneling to access, but also fail
Please advise, how to access back mysql at my linux server without CPanel on my chrome browser at my window 7 desktop
Please advise
Duncan

'my.cnf' is not required to run MySQL.
The MySQL server does not provide a web page for any purpose. On web servers that support PHP, phpMyAdmin is often used.

I might understand CPanel is just helping you to monitor Mysql activity and those I have
seen from clicking mysql on Cpanel is done by Cpanel and not my mysql.
mysql itself never provide broswer webpage for montioring or admin , Right ?

But why my my.cnf is empty if the mysql software is installed on my server and not specfiy port 3306 ?
Expert: Dave Baldwin replied at 2024-08-04 00:08:04
No, MySQL is separate from Cpanel. If 'mysqld' is running and listening on port 3306, then MySQL is running. The fact that Cpanel expired should not have anything to do with the MySQL installation. Cpanel may have provided an easy admin interface but it does not control the program. You just have to do some reading and use one of the other methods (like I suggested above) for controlling MySQL databases.
Here's one option that you can use on the command line thru SSH: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.6/en/mysql.html

Dear DaveBaldwin,
sorry about that.Actually, I may understand what you said.
Please point out my following statement and its mistake
Becoz in the past, we used mysql under Cpanel license, and the mysql software
is not installed on my server and the mysql software is installed at CPanel server, Right ?
Now I expired my Cpanel License so whatever I do I cannot access standalone mysql again
since no Cpanel license and the mysql software is not installed on my server.
So what I need to do is that install mysql directly from http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/
on my VPS server and then I can use mysql directly stored at my server without
any license
If all is right, I will close this thread soon
Please advise
Duncan

I have no idea what you need to do. I only know that you can not access MySQL directly thru your browser which was your original question. That article you linked above shows how to use your MySQL ODBC connector thru SSH. If you have SSH access to the command line on the server, you can use the 'mysql' monitor program if you know the username and password.

500 points EXCELLENT
No browser has the correct protocols to access a MySQL server. You need a different program that does like the 'mysql' monitor program, MySQL Workbench, phpMyAdmin if it is still running, or something like Toad. You will not be able to do it with just a browser.
