Topic:
General Laptop;;
This is an HP G72 laptop. The screen will show nothing at all, even under a bright flashlight. Video WILL output satisfactorily to an external VGA monitor. I replaced the LCD with a brand new one, and still have the same problem! Any ideas? I am Clueless.

Yes Nobus is right the cable is replaceble and can be easily damaged if the laptop had hinge problems, or if it was not removed properly. It is possible the video connector on the mother board may have been damaged, but then that type of damage would probably be visable.

500 points EXCELLENT
>> it can be the video chip has a bad, or broken normal video output , while the external is still ok << then that is likely the cause

Same thing happens when I try to boot from an Ubuntu Live CD.
web_tracker: is this cable replaceable?

test if the same happens when booting from a live Knoppix cd :

Can you please uninstall your video driver and install the version compatible to your hardware.
Expert: web_tracker replied at 2024-07-23 21:49:52
Press the F key and the function key that displays the monitor. Did you unplug the external monitor and still have nothing displayed? Maybe you have a bad cable that connect to the new lcd screen you replaced.

Other pertinent info: has the most up-to-date video driver already installed

Thanks for input santoshmotwani, but no success. I don't believe this system has an inverter board, or I would suspect that. Since I replaced the screen, and believe it to be LED backlit, I don't believe it is the backlight either.
