1- THe device is just ADSL modem, RIght ?
2- THe device is just ADSL modem and LAN ethernet switch Right ?
3- THe device is not router, RIght ?

The 169.254 address is useless in terms of internet connectivity - you were not asking about communication on your LAN.

Hi Duncan,
Following on from the previous thread relating to the same question...
The LAN connection uses 169.254.x.y when the ADSL modem or router is bridging the PPPoE connection from the ISP. This address is completely useless and in any case it isn't required. That's why the router/modem/gateway doesn't assign an address to the NIC.
As PPPoE is not an IP-based protocol, the LAN adapter doesn't need an IP address or default gateway in order to connect to the internet. The PPP connection from your PC connects using the PPPoE (Point-to-Point over Ethernet) protocol to the ISP through the LAN port via the modem/router/gateway.
Look at the IPConfig output you provided...
PPP ¿¿¿ pccw:
¿¿¿¿ DNS ¿¿ . . . . . . . . :
¿¿ . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .: pccw
¿¿¿¿ . . . . . . . . . . . . .:
DHCP ¿¿¿ . . . . . . . . . . . : ¿
¿¿¿¿¿¿ . . . . . . . . . . .: ¿
IPv4 ¿¿ . . . . . . . . . . . . : 203.218.x.x(¿¿¿¿) (Duncan hide the IP as x)
¿¿¿¿¿ . . . . . . . . . . . .: 255.255.255.255
¿¿¿¿ . . . . . . . . . . . . .: 0.0.0.0
DNS ¿¿¿ . . . . . . . . . . . .: 218.102.52.81
218.102.23.77
NetBIOS over Tcpip . . . . . . . .: ¿¿
Your subnet mask is 255.255.255.255. That indicates a /32 network address and therefore you're routing traffic via the PPP link. You don't need to do anything at all to make the connection to the internet 'normal' - it already is!
Anyhow, the other experts have provided you with an answer you could understand. Please open another thread if you need any more help with this.

You need to keep an open mind to understand this.
In the network world 0.0.0.0. Means any address. Since your adsl is bridged with your ISP, it connects directly to any address in the world. If you change that to a single IP, you'll only be able to connect to just that one IP
Think of a network as rooms in houses, houses on street, streets on cities, cities in states, states in countries, countries in continents etc
If you remove airports (assuming airlines are the only international transportation), you just confined yourself to a local area.
That's what you are trying to do if you remove the 0.0.0.0. Your are replacing your gate with a fence and will be stuck in the building.
Analyze the word Gateway
Gate - Way
What is a gate for
What is a way for
It's not a magical word.
Going back to apipa address. These are self assigned addresses when the computer can't find someone to give it an address.
While you are building a house and assuming the city hasn't given you an address yet, most people will use the word "site" to identify it first. There must be an identification.
Communication will still occur between 2 or more apipa addreses if they are in the same class b range.

On your machine you are directly connected to your ISP. (as we learned, the device is connected to the internet is the degault gateway, so your computer is)
If any computer on your network needs access to Internet they should appoint your computer as a gateway (providing you configure internet sharing on your machine)

Not necessary to delete 0.0.0.0
Yes youre right, bravo!, because you use the modem as a bridge (hence connecting to the ISP directly) you dont need a gateway. You are the gateway :)

Wow you have a multiple gateway config at home, impressive :)
Dont worry, you will not (often) come across this kind of configs in the professional SysAdmin world.
In normal world situation your computer enable DHCP meaning it will ask a DHCP server for its ipnumber, dns server and standard gateway.
This will normally be provided by a DHCP server OR a modem router(home & small office)

Up to this comment,
I still not able to delete 0.0.0.0 default gateway using route delete 0.0.0 command
OR it is not neccessary to delete it becoz the ADSL is using in bridge mode instead of modem mode
Is it right ?
Please advise.

I also tried tracert on second computer, the first entry is 10.193.235.85
10.193.231.85 is the default gateway for first computer(win 7) that is rrelated to port 3 of ADSL router
10.193.235.85 is the default gateway for second computer(win xp) that is related to port 2 of
ADSL router.
So it seems 10.193.x.85 is default gateway(or door to internet) for the 4 ports of ADSL device

Haha COOL!
You both have apipa adress but with matching subnet
169.254.109.44 computer a
169.254.39.175 computer b
Subnet 255.255.0.0
This means you can connect to any apipa address in the range 192.254.x.x
(i dint even know this was possible, so cool to learn again)

No i understand what it says, i do not understand you default gateway is never mentioned.
Must be due to PPP adaptor config.
How do you connect to the ftp machine? name or ipadress?
What if you enter?

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_does_169.254.10.1_indicates
the link mentions
169.254.10.1 is an IP address generated automatically by a computer when it is unable to lease an address from a DHCP server. It is called an Automatic Private IP Addressing (APIPA) address.
SO from your reply, DHCP can not generate 192.169.x.x address for ethernet even DHCP
is enabled for my case so it automatically generate APIPA address
if 168.25.x.x is invalid,
But why I still ftp file to my next other computer through ADSL router, I get two
computer one is window 7 , the other is window XP., Why ?

Here you are connected to the internet directly (hence no need for gateway) so you are not using the modem as a modem but as a bridge.

Think of your ISP as being the Internet. (all ISP's in the world form the internet right?!)
You need a device that connects to the internet (modem).
For your internal LAN you need a way to tell the computers where the 'door'(=default gateway) is to the internet. (internal ip address modem/router)
Let me clarify 'door'
When you have 10 computers in a Lan, they all need to pass the same device (door) to get on the internet. The default gateway!
Default gateway (0.0.0.0) is not needed for the modem, only for your clients. Your modem does not need a 'door' because it is directly connected to the internet. IT IS THE DOOR.

If it is router, why the default gateway is set to be 0.0.0.0 ?
Where is the gateway ?
it is concept question.

50 points EXCELLENT
Hi Duncan,
To me it looks like a ADSL modem router.
Modem because it connects you to your ISP.
Router because it handles (routes) traffic from the ISP to your internal (wifi) Lan.
For your computers you need to specify the default gateway (being the internal ip adress of you NEC device)
If your internal network has 192.168.1.x (for example) mostly the default gateway is at either 192.168.1.1 (first available ip number) OR it is on 192.168.1.254 (last available ip number for subnet 1)
